Mommy, where do stem cells come from?
A guy I know told me about an episode of Law and Order: SVU dealing with stem cell research. This episode was not, shall we say, informed.
The show dealt with a comatose woman who was impregnated so that the baby could be used for stem cell research.
YOU FUCKING MORONS! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!
It seems pretty obvious to me right off the bat that whoever made this show was incredibly biased and willing to just make shit up in order to further his religious agenda. Aside from associated stem cell research with this horrible act, the show left out entirely where stem cells come from, much like Bush and Kerry did.
See, there’s a good chance you just know that stem cells come from dead babies. They do, but not babies killed for that purpose. When a baby is removed from a woman’s body and not killed, or a fetus is frozen so that it can be born at some later time, they actually take up space. Since they take up space, and there are a lot of them, there is such a surplus that these babies are literally being thrown out.
Now, considering the fact that the baby will be in a garbage dump otherwise, I think it’s absolutely the right thing to do to experiment and learn what we can do with these stem cells. For example, curing the AIDS and syphylis spreading around because Bush tells kids not to use condoms.
I’ll be perfectly clear about my postition on stem cell research-as soon as this surplus of babies goes away, that’s it. In theory the scientists will be able to find some other way to get stem cells by then, having been given free reign with those surplus babies.
Recently, Christopher Reeve died. He donated to some of the best causes in the world, and helped advance the universal cause of helping the disadvantaged. Okay, well, universal except for Republicans, who kill the disadvantaged. You probably see where I’m going with this-stem cell research could have saved Christopher Reeve if it had been advanced enough.
In other words, Lex Luthor, Kryptonite, three superhumans and a supercomputer couldn’t kill him, but Bush could. Michael J. Fox can still be saved! Revolt against this media assault on fair and necessary life-saving medical advances!
