Bush will self-destruct in 12 months or less.
Edit from later: I just finished watching the Friday week-in-review shows, and boy was I right. Katrina is going to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
Anyone who cares enough about politics to read this page is aware of Bush and Iraq’s low approval numbers. What they probably weren’t aware of is that I predicted them before 2004 ended.
Remember a few posts back when I said that Bush has just been spinning his wheels during the ENTIRE YEAR of 2005? If not, see the post titled ‘Quack Quack’. Anyway, that was only the first part of several reasons why Bush will have, come 2008, destroyed any chance of any Republican winning.
#1. Gas prices. This is what killed Jimmy Carter-who, might I add, I still hope will run again some day. Everyone’s sorry to hear about the thousands of Americans and tens of thousands of non-combatant Iraqis killed, but when they have to pay 50 bucks to fill up their SUV every two days, that actually pisses them off more. Bush hasn’t done anything for those who elected him, and now every American who owns a car is personally pissed off at him. If it weren’t for Katrina, then the only story on the news right now would be gas prices. Here in Virginia, they’re above 3.00-and we’re considered one of the lowest places in the country, gas price-wise.
#2. Iraq. In the words of Brian Burleigh, fun to play with. Not to eat. We forgot everything we learned about fighting these tactics in Vietnam, so now we’re relying on symbolic victories-the unfair election, the Constitution that opresses minorites, Saddam’s capture. Stuff like that. But the fact is, no particular progress is being made. Saddam killed hundreds of thousands of his own people, many of whom were innocent? Guess what, he wasn’t the only one!
#3. Like I said before, he hasn’t done much of anything this whole year. The only real stories about Bush are ones that revealed bad things-like Karl Rove revealing the name of an undercover CIA agent. Or Bush lying and going back on his word about firing Rove. The only good thing that’s happened to Bush all year was O’Connor resigning, which he had nothing to do with Bush.
#4. His base is falling apart. The one group that would never go to Kerry, even an inch, was the Religious Right. And what has he done for them lately? Absolutely nothing. All he’s done for them is endorse Intelligent Design, during the one week it was in the news. I only heard about him endorsing ID three times myself, so I can’t imagine a whole lot of his base heard about it. Even if they did, that is secondary to a whole lot of other things-stem cell research and abortion primarily.
#5. The lower his numbers get, the faster they get low. This is based on a simple fact-that the people who make up about ten to twenty percent, the ones that deteremind the last election, run away from anyone once they hear that person is doing badly. None of these spineless people is going to start supporting Bush after hearing his and Iraq’s numbers just keep getting lower and lower.
#6. Once the Democrats see the whites of his eyes, they’re going to give it to him. After I realize something like this, it’s a little while-but not too long-before the Dems realize it too. In not too long, the Dems will realize that they’ll be called partisan no matter what, and that Bush’s low numbers signal the perfect time to give him the beating they’ve been aching to since Kerry lost.
Bush’s numbers will plummet and a Democrat will win in ‘08. That I am sure of.
